International Geodiversity Day – EGN (European Geoparks Network) Fossil of the Year 2027 Art Contest

Today is the International Geodiversity Day. Geodiversity is all around you. It is all the parts of nature that are not alive; including everything from minerals and fossils, rocks to soils and spectacular landscapes. Geodiversity is a multifaceted window into the Earth's past, from which we can understand the processes taking place in nature today and gauge the influence of humans on nature. With this knowledge, we can act more sustainably in the future.

As a tribute to the International Geodiversity Day, we want to celebrate the fossil heritage in European UNESCO Geoparks. For this occasion, we have come up with an art contest: Send us an artwork of any kind of your favorite fossil from our Geopark. The winner will receive a surprise from us! Do you need an idea for your favorite fossil? Just visit the Geopark thematic house in Carisolo (LINK SITO WEB ORARI BIBLIOTECA/CASA GEOPARK) or one of our 61 geosites.
Submissions are possible until 31st December 2026.

From all the submissions across the European Geoparks, a winner will again be chosen in March 2027.
The winning artwork will then be named the Fossil of the Year 2027 of the European Geopark Network.
