Although reported on many maps as lakes, Folgorida lakes have become completely buried by natural evolution. They are located in the upper Val Folgorida, under the Cresta del Belvedere over 2500 m.

The natural destiny of every lake is to become a marsh or a peat bog over time. Finally disappear due to the process of progressive burial linked to the more or less intense solid transport of the inflow. Even the waters that flow into the Folgorida stream carry a lot of glacial silt that has filled and continues to fill the basins of the now former lakes of Folgorida. They are located upstream of a large glacial moraine that signals the ancient position of the Folgorida glacier.
