Restocking consists in reinforcing the presence of a species in a territory. On the Adamello and Presanella massifs, twelve ibexes (7 females and 5 males, aged between 1 and 4 years) from Switzerland were released in Val Genova in summer 2006. The operation was part of the 100 years of ibex in Switzerland – Steinbock 2006 to commemorate the centenary presence of the animal in the Helvetic territory. In that occasion, Switzerland has ceded three groups of ibexes to Piedmont, Trentino and Friuli Venezia Giulia for restocking operations.
Two releases occurred between June 8th and July 17th 2006, in the nearby the Hotel-Restaurant Stella Alpina in Val Genova. Representants of the Adamello Brenta Natural Park, of the Autonomous Province of Trento and of the Helvetic territory were present, among which, the Swiss Consul in Milan Marzio Tartini, the head of the Department of Forests and the Hunting and Fishing Office of Graubünden, Jurg Brosi, the president of the Organizing Committee “Ibex 2006”, Hans Joerg and dr. Marco Giacometti.
