Ancient quartz quarries from which the mineral destined to glass production was extracted and used at the glassworks in the Giudicarie valleys during the 19th century.
The ancient quarries in Val Algone supplied quartz for the production of vitreous paste in the Giudicarie glassworks. This flourishing nineteenth-century industry produced also fine glass.
So in Val Algone a glass factory was started. Its ruins and the chimney are still standing and can be visited. In addition, a pleasant nature trail allows the visitor to understand the various cultural and natural aspects of the quartz resource.
