In Italy there are 11 Geoparcks, all extremely diversified. They work in a network in a coordinated and synergic way within the Italian UNESCO Global Geoparks National Committee. This consists of representatives of the individual Geoparks, of the Italian Ministry for the Environment and Protection of the Territory and the Sea, of the Higher Institute for Environmental Protection and Research (ISPRA), of UNESCO, of Federparchi and of the Ministry for cultural heritage.

All over the world there are 140 UNESCO Global Geoparks localized  in 40 counties united in the Global Geoparks Network (GGN) which promotes:

  • Networking among the different territories,
  • sustainable development based on the involvement of local communities in the knowledge, conservation and enhancement of the geological heritage,
  • research and exchange of knowledge and experiences among different communities.

The Global Netwok operates through Regional Networks, such as European Geopark Network (EGN) of which Adamello Brenta Geopark is part. set up in 2000, ita goals are:

  • preserving geodiversity,
  • dissemination of geological heritage to a large audience,
  • promoting a sustainable development at local level by geotourism and enhancing a general image related to the geological heritage.

The European Network brings together 74 territories belonging to 30 different European countries that share these objectives and that work together in an active and dynamic way, through meetings, working groups and scientific conferences.
