What is a Geopark

A Geopark... 

 

... it is an area with clearly defined boundaries and that has a significant geological and geomorphologic heritage and particular importance in terms of its rarity, scientific quality, aesthetic appeal or educational value. Its identity is tightly related to the geology but it is important also the natural and cultural heritage

 

... it comprises a certain number of geosites of geological interest, but its interest may also be archaeological, ecological, historical or cultural. The Geosites are object of common action of promotion

 

... it promotes the geological and geomorphologic heritage, fostering environmental education and training, improving scientific researches in the various field of the Earth sciences and fostering a particular form of sustainable tourism: the geotourism

 


... it protects, through a coordinated strategy, the geological and geomorphologic heritage by using innovative conservation strategies that don't exclude people from the environment fruition; the Geopark doesn't exists without the site integrity that justify its existence

 

... it is managed by a consistent and structured management body, that has already adopted a long-lasting and sustainable strategy of economic development
